Help with Mortgage costs

If your mortgage was taken out after 2 October 1995 you will have to wait for 9 months until you will receive help with your mortgage interest. You will not receive help with the capital repayment.

If your mortgage was taken out before 1 October 1995 you will have to wait 8 weeks then you will receive help for ½ of the mortgage interest for the next 18 weeks then you will receive help with all of the mortgage interest.

Jobseeker's Allowance

If you are of working age but unemployed and actively seeking work, you may be able to get Jobseeker's Allowance.

This is paid at £45.50 per week if you are 24 or under and £57.45 if you are 25 or over.

Your payments might be reduced if you are receiving a pension of more than £50 a week, or delayed if you are receiving final payments from your last job.

You will get less if you have savings over £6,000. If you have savings over £16,000 you probably won’t qualify.

If your partner works 24 hours or more a week on average, you can’t usually get income-based JSA (contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance isn’t affected). If your partner works less than 24 hours, it may affect how much you get.
